York Valkyrie v Huddersfield Giants - Match Preview

🤝 York RLFC Match Previews are proudly partnered by David Lloyd York!

York Valkyrie will make history on Sunday (3pm) when they become the first team in Betfred Women’s Super League history to lift the League Leaders’ Shield for a second consecutive year.

The Valkyrie conclude their regular season against Huddersfield Giants at the LNER Community Stadium, having already sealed the League Leaders’ Shield after last month’s 4-36 win at Wigan Warriors.

The Shield capture follows on from 2022's success and, having seen Bradford Bulls (2017), Leeds Rhinos (2018), Castleford Tigers (2019) and St Helens (2021) claim previous Shields, means York have now won more LLS's than any other club.

York will be hoping to head into the BWSL Play-Offs with their unbeaten league record still in tact, having recorded eight wins and one draw so far in 2023.

Only two teams in the BWSL’s six-season history have previously gone without defeat through the regular season, with Bradford Bulls doing so in 2017 and Leeds Rhinos achieving the feat in 2021.

Lindsay Anfield's side have completed the double over St Helens (26-6 and 8-18), Warrington Wolves (44-4 and 10-58), Wigan Warriors (40-6 and 4-36) while beating and drawing with Leeds Rhinos (12-34 and 12-12 respectively).

Back in July's reverse fixture, an Emma Kershaw hat-trick inspired York a convincing 48-8 win at Huddersfield Laund Hill.

Elisa Akpa also contributed two tries while Jas Bell, Ashleigh Hyde, Liv Gale and Liv Whitehead got their names on the scoresheet in the rout.

Having seen team-mates Sinead Peach and Rhiannion Marshall surpass 100 points for the Club earlier this season, England international centre Tamzin Renouf could reach the same milestone this week by scoring one try.

York Valkyrie will be seeking to end the 2023 Betfred Women's Super League regular season with their unbeaten record still in tact when they host Huddersfield Giants at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (3pm).

York Valkyrie Under-19s take on Wigan Warriors Under-19s as the curtain-raiser (12pm), in the youth side's first appearance at the LNER Community Stadium.
