York Valkyrie host Huddersfield Giants in the Betfred Women’s Super League at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (3pm)!

The game is part of a double header, with York Valkyrie Under 19s playing their counterparts from Huddersfield Giants beforehand (12.30pm).

After a tough start to the year, York have now won their last five league games, including a narrow 24-20 win at Huddersfield in the reverse fixture last month. Tries from Jas Bell, Tamzin Renouf, Zoe Hornby and Sinead Peach, with three goals from Ellie Williamson and one from Rhiannion Marshall.

The run means the Valkyrie are in third place, two points behind second place St.Helens and with a three point cushion on fourth placed Leeds.

The Giants are currently fifth in the league table, with three wins from their opening eight games. Their wins have come over Warrington Wolves (40-30), Leigh Leopards (32-6) and Barrow Raiders (32-12).

It’s the third consecutive week that Lori Halloran’s side have faced a team from the top four in the table, losing 76-0 at Wigan Warriors before suffering a 54-12 reverse at Leeds Rhinos last weekend.

Huddersfield’s team includes former York players, Eva Izumi and Lauren Exley, the latter of which made her debut in the game against Leeds. England player, Amelia Brown is likely to line up at full back, while the former Leeds Rhino Sam Hulme bring experience to their halves.

York head into the game after the 58-0 win over Barrow which saw them produce some of their best form of the season so far. Peace Lekuru got a hat-trick in just her second appearance for the club.
