York Valkyrie v Warrington Wolves - Match Preview

đŸ€Â York RLFC Match Previews are proudly sponsored by David Lloyd York!

York Valkyrie go in search of back-to-back Betfred Women’s Super League victories when they host Warrington Wolves in Sunday's curtain raiser (12pm) at the LNER Community Stadium.

York responded from consecutive defeats to Leeds Rhinos and St Helens to thrash Huddersfield Giants 50-12 at Laund Hill on Sunday.

Winger Emma Kershaw claimed a hat-trick away at Huddersfield for the second season running while England star Eboni Partington and teenage debutant Izzy Brennan each finished with doubles. Carrie Roberts, Jess Sharp and Bettie Lambert also bagged tries for Lindsay Anfield’s side.

Having finished second-from-bottom in the Betfred Women’s Super League group one last year, Warrington boast two wins from their first four league outings – the same number of BWSL victories they managed in the entirety of 2023.

Warrington opened the year with a thrilling 34-28 triumph over last year’s group two winners Featherstone Rovers before fellow newly-promoted side Barrow Raiders were edged out 10-6.

The Wolves also reached the Quarter-Finals of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup, thanks to wins at Bradford Bulls (4-52) and London Broncos (6-24), before eventual finalists Leeds ran out as 70-10 winners in the last eight.

York will be seeking a fourth straight league win over Warrington this weekend, having won the last three BWSL meetings between the sides.

Doubles from Sinead Peach and Tamzin Renouf led a 62-0 thrashing at Victoria Park back in July 2021. Savannah Andrade, Katie Langan, Rhiannion Marshall, Alisha Clayton, Emma Hardy, Kelsey Gentles and Grace Field were also on the scoresheet that afternoon.

The Valkyrie then completed the league double over Warrington in 2023.

As the curtain raiser for day two of the Summer Bash, York came out on top 44-4 at the LNER Community Stadium with Tara Jane Stanley and Liv Whitehead both recording braces while Renouf, Peach, Marshall and Georgie Hetherington also bagged tries.

Anfield’s squad then closed in on a record second straight BWSL League Leaders’ Shield at Victoria Park in August thanks to a 58-10 victory.

Peach and Liv Wood each finished with a couple of tries, with Kershaw, Renouf, Whitehead, Jess Sharp, Ashleigh Hyde, Carrie Roberts and Elisa Akpa also finding their way over the whitewash.

York RLFC are delighted to be hosting a triple header at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday, with York Valkyrie facing Warrington Wolves (12pm), York Knights taking on Widnes Vikings (3pm) and OSCAR's All Stars meeting the Rugby League All Stars (5pm)!
