York Valkyrie will be bidding for a second straight appearance in the Betfred Women's Super League Grand Final when they host Wigan Warriors in the Play-Off Semi-Finals at the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3.30pm).
York topped the BWSL table after the end of the regular season, picking up nine wins and one draw from their 10 matches.
As a result, the Valkyrie secured home advantage in the Play-Off Semi-Finals, setting up a clash against fourth-placed Wigan at the LNER Community Stadium, the same opposition as in last year's final four meeting at Headingley Stadium, which ended in a 12-4 triumph.
Lindsay Anfield's side have already twice beaten Wigan in the regular season and will be hoping a third straight success books their place in the Grand Final on Sunday 8th October.
York came out on top by a 40-6 scoreline at the LNER in July, with a Lacey Owen brace and tries from Ellie Hendry, Rhiannion Marshall, Sinead Peach, Tara Jane Stanley, Emma Kershaw and Sade Rihari inspiring the victory.
The Valkyrie backed that up with a 36-4 win at Robin Park Arena last month as the two points earned sealed an historic second consecutive Leaders Leaders' Shield crown.
Marshall and Carrie Roberts each twice crossed the whitewash, while Owen, Savannah Andrade and Kershaw also finished with tries.
Wigan will however head to North Yorkshire with memories of their 12-4 win over York in the Women's Nines Semi-Finals back in June fresh in their minds.
The Warriors have continued to show improvements in 2023, having run Betfred Women's Challenge Cup Finalists St Helens and Leeds Rhinos close in tight 12-4 and 16-4 defeats earlier this season.
