York Valkyrie v Wigan Warriors: Match Preview

York Valkyrie meet League Leaders Shield winners, Wigan Warriors in the final round of the Betfred Women’s Super League Super 4s on Sunday 13th September (12pm) at the LNER Community Stadium!

Despite a narrow 14-10 defeat at home to St.Helens last weekend, back to back wins over Leeds Rhinos and St.Helens mean the Valkyrie are still third in the table with a chance of qualifying for the play off semi-final.

Sitting above Saints on points difference, unless York win, their semi-final ambitions will hang on St.Helens game against Leeds Rhinos. A win for Saints will see them take third place. Defeat, and it will depend on points difference between them and York as to who goes through.

The Valkyrie have shown clear signs of improvement in the Super 4s, beating teams above them in the table for the first time this year.

Wigan arrive having clinched the League Leaders shield two weeks ago. They’ve had an incredible 2026, having gone unbeaten in all competitions all year. They added the shield to the Befred Women’s Challenge Cup, and they’re now hoping to claim the treble for a second consecutive year.

The Valkyrie were the only team to beat Wigan last year, and they’ve not lost a game since then, when they met at Blaydon last August.

This year, York have suffered two heavy defeats away from home to Denis Betts’ side. First, going down 52-0 in the Challenge Cup semi-final, before a 44-0 loss in the Super 4s earlier last month.

The last game at the LNER Community Stadium was a closer affair, with a 32-12 defeat for York in June.

Leon Pryce and his players will be hoping to bounce back from Sunday’s defeat by Saints and push the Warriors who are already through to the Grand Final, courtesy of finishing top of the table.
