RugBees - Rugby league sessions for Primary School-aged Girls aged 7 to 11-years-old!
New for 2023, the RugBees Programme is delivered in partnership with the RFL.
RugBees is open to Girls aged 7-11 and is delivered on a weekly basis by Club Foundations across the country.
Sessions aim to help girls develop their confidence in areas such as catching, passing and kicking – whilst having plenty of fun and being able to enjoy sport for all that it offers.
This is the first rugby league Programme to be developed specifically for Primary School-aged Girls and the RFL has chosen the popular 2021 Rugby League World Cp mascot RugBee to bring the project to life.
The RugBees Programme aims to tackle stereotypes and redefine what rugby league means to girls by offering a fun introduction to the sport through developing skills and confidence in an environment designed to help young girls thrive.
Up until Under-12s, girls and boys can play community rugby league within the same team. This is something we still support and encourage for girls wishing to do so.
After such age, girls and boys must play separately. We see this new venture as a way of promoting the sport to a wider audience and help encourage more girls into the sport.
The new offer comes as a result of the scientific studies and research conducted through pilot schemes to suggest the additional opportunity would make a positive impact. We see this step forward as a way of working together with the community game, to increase participation and raise playing standards.
Each session lasts for one hour, beginning with an introduction to the game’s technical skills and finishing with a non-contact form of the game such as Tag or Touch. Parents and guardians will be encouraged to cheer children on throughout!
As of Monday 2nd October, our weekly sessions take place every Monday and start at the later time of 7pm - 8pm at York St John Sports Park on Haxby Road (YO31 8TA) and are priced at £3 per session.
