York College Development Academy
The York College RL Development Academy programme combines students’ studies with the opportunity to represent the City, College and York RLFC in regular fixtures against other colleges and Sixth Forms.
This year’s programme and runs the twice-weekly training sessions that include field-based training and a gym session as part of the students’ timetable.
We have long been believers that sport has the ability to help change lives, and its positive impact can be felt by all ages. With the Rugby League World Cup coming to York later in the year, we have more reason than ever to capitalise on international sport being played in the city and use this opportunity to engage, inspire and develop a new audience of all ages with a positive introduction to the sport.
The Foundation's education pathway has links with over 55 schools from both within the city and those in neighbouring regions. From the school’s pathway, the exit routes lead to education partners York College and York St John University, thus allowing players to continue their journey in rugby development, as well as leave the door open to those new to the sport to get involved.
The programme at York College provides an extra step on the York RLFC pathway after the Excel+ Programme. To date, ten students from previous Excel+ Programmes have taken the opportunity to play for the College, with Myles Harrison being the first student to play for the college development centre and then go on for the Knights first team
