York Valkyrie will be hoping to leapfrog Wigan Warriors in the Betfred Women's Super League table when the two sides meet at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (12pm).
We spoke to Director of Rugby Lindsay Anfield ahead of the clash between two of the division's top three.
First of all Lindsay, how do you reflect on last weekend's 62-0 victory over Featherstone Rovers?
“The nil was the main positive from that one, with our defence being tested and not being broken down. That’s a major positive factor to come out of the last two weeks after niling Barrow Raiders the week before.
“Those fixtures can be frustrating at times but we’re really looking forward to playing Wigan this weekend and seeing what they’re about.
“They’ve improved significantly from last year and they’re top sides like Leeds and St Helens really close so it’ll be a good test for us.”
Wigan have enjoyed a really strong start to the season and are currently second in the Betfred Women's Super League. How strong a challenge will they pose on Sunday?
"They’re recruited really well, bringing in some overseas players and bringing Georgia Wilson back.
"We’ve always known that they’ve got a strong pathway with some real talent their Under-14s and Under-16s, so it was only a matter of time before they started coming through.
“Isobel Rowe has come through that system and gone on to play half-back for England.
“We’ll have to make sure we're on the ball in order to come away with the two points.
“With the experience that we’ve got in our squad and playing at home, hopefully we can deliver a strong performance, but we can’t take anything for granted.”
You're on a run of four straight league wins. How are you feeling about your side's form heading into these two crucial games against Wigan and then St Helens?
“These games against Wigan then St Helens were two fixtures that we had our eyes on during that five-week break.
“Unfortunately with the amount of injuries we’ve had and have currently got, the team is changing week after week.
“We’re trying to find a happy balance especially in our backline. This weekend will be another test to see where we’re at in that area before we play St Helens.”
How pleased have you been by the players that come into your side over the past couple of weeks?
“I have to give credit to the guys that are running our Under-19s, they’re making that transition for the likes of Izzy Brennan, Evie Sexton and Eva Izumi pretty easy.
“And bringing Megan in has been a massive bonus. She’s really embraced what we’re doing and has fitted in really well with the rest of the team.”
What's the latest on your team news heading into Sunday?
"We're hoping to have Lacey (Owen) back this weekend after her knee injury and Koms (Manuqalo Komaitai) and Carrie (Roberts) are back in training, having been out with their Army work commitments, so they're in contention to play.
"We're still without Rhiannion Marshall, Alex Stimpson and Kelsey Gentles with knee injuries.
"We're also missing Tamzin Renouf (elbow), Bettie Lambert (ankle) and Remi Wilton (hamstring and wrist)."
