Featherstone Rovers 0-44 York Valkyrie: Match Report

York Valkyrie bounced back from consecutive defeats with a 44-0 win over Featherstone Rovers in the Betfred Women’s Super League.

Ellie Williamson scored a hat-trick as the Valkyrie registered nine tries in a comprehensive win against the League newcomers.

It keeps the Valkyrie in fourth place in the table, with one game to go before the league splits for the second half of the season.

York got the scoring started within the first ten minutes, with Williamson breaking from far out to get the first of her three.

Megan Pakulis was next to cross, before Monique Donovan also went over to extend the Valkyrie’s lead. Williamson converted the former, and York were in control, and Featherstone making mistakes with ball in hand.

York went close, being held up on the tryline before Emma Kershaw made certain with her effort, and Leon Pryce’s side took an 18-0 lead into the break.

It wasn’t the ideal start to the second half, with Amelie Lenham was sin-binned for a bad tackle on Rovers’ half back, Liv Grace, but going down to 12 players didn’t have too much of an impact on the Valkyrie’s attack.

Moments later, Williamson went in for her second try, which she converted.

Featherstone were still there to compete, and York were denied another try by some good defence. However, when Eboni Partington got a chance to score the first of her brace, the scoreboard continued to tick over.

Williamson completed her hat-trick, which Rhiannion Marshall converted, and while Featherstone were managing some decent field position, some poor handling meant they weren’t able to build any pressure.

Before the end of the game, Petra Woods went in for an unconverted try, and Partington completed the match with her second of the game.
