Featherstone Rovers v York Valkyrie: Match Preview

York Valkyrie end their regular fixtures in the Betfred Women’s Super League at Featherstone Rovers on Sunday at the Millennium Stadium (12pm).


Lindsay Anfield’s side are already assured of a play off spot, and a win against Rovers, coupled with Wigan Warriors beating Leeds Rhinos on Friday night, would give them a home tie in the semi finals. 


If Leeds were to beat Wigan and York win at Featherstone, the battle for second place would then come down to points difference. 


York are on a winning run of four games, including vital wins against two play off rivals.


After their 32-6 win at Leeds Rhinos, they beat Wigan Warriors 16-12 in appalling conditions at Leigh Miners Rangers last weekend to go third in the table. 


Tries from Izzy Brennan and Lisa Parker, and four goals from Brennan meant York returned home with the win. 


Featherstone Rovers are without a win in what is their first season in Super League after being promoted last year.


They were beaten 52-12 last Sunday at Leeds Rhinos, and they’ll finish bottom of the table regardless of results this weekend.


Marie Colley’s team have suffered some heavy defeats by the top four clubs, including a 62-0 defeat the last time they played York.


On that day, Savannah Andrade scored a hat-trick for the Valkyrie, and both Eboni Partington and Emma Kershaw got two tries each. 


That was the third time this year York had played Featherstone having already met in the group stages and quarter finals of the Betfred Challenge Cup. 


York ran out easy winners in both of those, winning 80-6 in the group match and then 70-0 in the quarter final. 


The Valkyrie will go into this game without Tara-Jane Stanley, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury. 


York Valkyrie travel to the Millennium Stadium to take on Featherstone Rovers in the Betfred Women's Super League on Sunday (12pm)!


Entrance before 12pm is ÂŁ10 for Adults and free for Under 16s. After that, prices will go up in line with the men's game between Featherstone Rovers and Sheffield Eagles which follows the women's match.
