Foundation's School Takeover success alongside St Oswald's

York RLFC Foundation were delighted to receive a share of almost £2,000 raised by St Oswald’s CE Primary School as part of our recent School Takeover!

The Foundation last month staged a School Takeover at St Oswald’s CE Primary School, with numerous fundraising and sporting activities taking place throughout the day.

Children from St Oswald’s took part in smoothie-making static bike riding, PE sessions on our inflatable rugby pitch and inflatable assault course and in dancing workshops led by Join The Momentum.

York Knights star Ronan Michael and York Valkyrie ace Jess Sharp were also in attendance alongside mascots Norris The Knight and RugBee and the Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final trophy which the Valkyrie won for the first time last year.

Michael and Sharp led a whole school assembly alongside York RLFC Foundation Delivery Manager Adam Prentis, discussing the attributes and qualities needed in a professional rugby league player and introducing them to the Foundation and York RLFC.

As part of the School Takeover, St Oswald’s raised £1,963.65 for the Foundation and the Rob Burrow MND Centre, with the money raised shared between the two charities.

In addition to the School Takeover, the Foundation has supported St Oswald’s throughout the school year through the delivery of curriculum and extracurricular activities across multiple age groups alongside supporting teachers through the provision of session plans and resources to allow them to deliver high-quality PE sessions through primary rugby league.

The Foundation were also delighted to welcome a large number of pupils from St Oswald’s during last month’s Education Day as York Knights faced Sheffield Eagles, with the School providing a bus to the fixture.

York RLFC Foundation Delivery Manager Adam Prentis said: “On behalf of everyone at the Foundation, I’d like to pay our gratitude and thanks to St Oswald’s CE Primary School for the funds they have raised as part of our School Takeover!

“The Foundation plays a vital role in working with our local Primary Schools, introducing young people to the sport of rugby league and inspiring the next generation of York RLFC stars.

“I’d like to thank all at St Oswald’s for their support and pay special thanks to Mr Lloyd and Mr Waterfall-Smith as well as to everyone that has donated to the Foundation to the Rob Burrow MND Centre.

“All the money raised allows the Foundation to continue to spread our community work throughout York and North Yorkshire and donations such as these are vital in supporting our continued impact in our region.”

Mr Waterfall-Smith, the Year 5/6 Phase Leader and Teacher at St Oswald's Primary School, added: “We are delighted to announce that we have raised £1,963.65 to give to both the Rob Burrow MND Centre and York RLFC Foundation.

“Thank you so much to the families that have donated. We want to inspire more children to get involved in rugby in the York area and the work the Foundation does really promotes this.

“Rob Burrow has been such an inspiration to us all and has been at the forefront of our teaching to the children about being courageous advocates in the quest for justice (our school value this term).”

The York RLFC Foundation's new Primary School Offer has been distributed across all Schools in York and surrounding areas and we are now taking bookings for the new academic year starting in September.
