York RLFC Foundation were delighted to have staged our biggest-ever secondary school Festival on Thursday at the Archbishop Holgate's Secondary School!
The Inspired By 9s Festival consisted of school children from Years 9 and Years 10, with over 130 players in attendance across 10 different schools and 11 different sides.
Teams from across North Yorkshire, including Knaresborough, Boroughbridge, Selby, were represented while there was also strong participation from schools in York and Tadcaster.
The Inspired By 9s boys Festival is the first of several planned to take place during this Academic Year, with a girls Festival scheduled for November at the York St John University Sports Park.
York RLFC Delivery Manager Adam Prentis said: "The Foundation were delighted to continue the growth of our schools delivery by hosting our biggest-ever secondary school Festival!
"It was fantastic to see many new-comers showing a quick adaption to the rules of rugby league as well as enjoying their first involvement in the sport.
"Many of the players involved are already playing at community clubs, but it is hoped that the several new-comers will continue to take part in rugby league outside of school.
"Growing rugby league areas, such as Boroughbridge, were represented in the Inspired By 9s Festival as the York RLFC Foundation endeavours to expand our reach across the North Yorkshire region."
The next York RLFC Foundation Inspired By 9s Boys Festival will take place on Thursday at the York St John University Sports Park (4pm) and is open to Year 7 and Year 8 school teams across North Yorkshire.
