Four Valkyrie stars help England to victory!

Four Valkyrie stars featured yesterday in England Women’s emphatic 72-4 victory over Brazil at Headingley Stadium, kickstarting their Group A schedule in this year’s World Cup in style.

In front of a crowd approaching 10,000, Tara Jane Stanley and Olivia Wood started at centre and prop, respectively, while Grace Field and second-rower Hollie Dodd joined the action from the interchange bench.

Leading 34-0 at the break, a double from Stanley – who kicked seven goals throughout the eighty minutes – and a first international try for prop forward Field helped England finish the game as a contest in the opening forty.

Courtney Winfield-Hill – a thorn in the Valkyrie’s side throughout her time with Leeds Rhinos – crossed for three tries while the impressive Amy Hardcastle scored a hat-trick from right centre.

In the second half, Olivia Wood finished off a great try in the dying moments to get three of the Valkyrie’s players over for tries in the opening round.

Elsewhere in Group A, Papua New Guinea hit Canada with a 34-12 victory. The top two advance to the semi-final stages.

Both semi-finals will be held as a double-header at the LNER Community Stadium with hospitality tickets, directly sold by York RLFC, selling fast! You can purchase yours today for £30 per person HERE.
