Halifax Panthers v York Knights - Match Preview

🤝 York Knights Match Previews are proudly partnered by David Lloyd York!

York Knights take on Halifax Panthers for the first time since since last season’s dramatic Betfred Championship Play-Off victory at The Shay Stadium on Sunday (3pm).

York secured a famous 26-24 win in 2022’s Betfred Championship Play-Off Eliminators, with the Knights coming from 22-12 behind to prevail thanks to a late halfway-line penalty goal from James Glover.

The against-the-odds triumph was the the first win secured in the Betfred Championship Play-Offs in the Club’s history.

In 2022, Halifax finished third during the regular season for the second year in a row, but the Panthers have found life tougher this campaign.

Simon Grix’s side fell to defeats at Featherstone Rovers (46-22) and Widnes Vikings (42-14) in the first month while edging past Sheffield Eagles and London Broncos, both by 26-18 scorelines.

Fax’s form picked up after victories over last year’s Betfred Championship Grand Finalists Batley Bulldogs (20-16), division leaders Featherstone in the Betfred Challenge Cup (18-22) and 2022’s Betfred League One champions Keighley Cougars (34-10).

However just one win has followed from their next three contests, suffering defeats to Barrow Raiders (16-12) and local rivals Bradford Bulls (22-26), the former being their first home defeat since losing to the Knights back in September.

A 24-18 victory over Barrow sandwiched between those losses in the Betfred Challenge Cup.

For Andrew Henderson’s York, a response from Good Friday’s 22-10 defeat against Keighley at the LNER Community Stadium will be sought.

The Knights had held off a second-half comeback from Sheffield to beat the Eagles 24-22, despite being down to 12 men, in the Betfred Challenge Cup prior to the loss to Keighley.
