York Knights travel to Bartercard Odsal Stadium to take on Halifax Panthers in the Betfred Championship on Friday night (7.45pm)!
Itās the third time the two have met this year, with the Knights winning at home in the first round of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup tie 32-20 in March, and the Panthers winning 18-10 at the LNER Community Stadium in the league a week later.
That league win was one of a run of six consecutive wins for Halifax, which made them the early pacesetters. In fact, they won seven of their opening eight games, with their only loss a 12-8 defeat at home to Bradford Bulls.
Since then, the Panthers managed to just pick up one point from seven games, thanks to a 24-24 draw at Widnes Vikings. However, their form has picked up of late, and they go in to Fridayās game on the back of two consecutive wins, beating Toulouse 30-16 at home, and a 18-16 victory at Batley last weekend.
They currently sit in fifth place with 19 points.
In contrast, since the defeat by Halifax in the league, York have lost just one game in all competitions and are now on a winning run of 12 games, with ten consecutive Betfred Championship wins. Ahead of this weekendās round of games, they sit top of the table, above Toulouse Olympique on points difference.
The Knights were on a good run ahead of the corresponding fixture last season, losing just three matches in ten. However they lost 38-18 at The Shay against a Halifax side who had been struggling for form. Brad Ward, Connor Bailey and Jacob Gannon all scored, with Ata Hingano kicking three goals. For the Panthers, James Woodburn-Hall, Ben Crooks, Charlie Graham and Joe Keyes all scored, while Lois Jouffret got two tries.
Former York players, Ronan Dixon, James Saltonstall and Tom Inman could all line up against the Knights for the game, while York captain, Liam Harris is likely to also come up against his former club.
