Harrison and Ward head to Hornets

York City Knights duo Myles Harrison and Brad Ward have signed short-term loan deals with Rochdale Hornets.

The eighteen-year-olds go into contention for the Betfred League One side ahead of their match this Sunday at Doncaster.

Full-back Harrison has made five appearances for the Knights this season in all competitions and had a short spell with the Hornets in 2021 after coming through the Knights’ Excel Player Development Programme into the first-team squad last year.

Ward joined the Knights ahead of the 2022 season and has to date made six appearances for the club, scoring three tries including a memorable debut effort against Newcastle Thunder in our Betfred Challenge Cup match against them earlier this year.

On the short-term switches for the pair, Head Coach James Ford said: “They’re going to get some more experience playing against blokes, going to Rochdale who are playing against a good League One team in Doncaster.

“It will be a challenge for them but we’re working really hard to develop these young men. They do need some more minutes on the field and Myles will hopefully get two more games in the next few weeks which will be great for him and the same for Wardy. He will be moving towards ten appearances in his first season with the club.

“It will really help their development for next season and beyond. Gary (Thornton) has taken over at Rochdale and I think they’re going through a bit of an injury crisis and he asked for some support. I think everybody at the club who was around when Gary was here remembers him really fondly and we’re pleased to be able to help him out.”
