Huddersfield Giants v York Knights: Magic WKND Preview

  • 2 min read

York Knights appear at Magic WKND for the first time ever on Saturday 4th July!

They kick off the whole weekend of matches at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium with a game against Huddersfield Giants (12.30pm).

York’s game is followed by the Hull derby at 3pm, before Leigh take on Warrington at 5.30pm to complete the fixtures on day 1 of the weekend.

After 16 games of the season, this match up puts the bottom two sides in the table together. York are currently four points ahead of the Giants, after their 20-14 win at Castleford last weekend, and Huddersfield lost 29-23 after a late try at Wakefield.

This is the second of three league meetings between the Knights and the Giants this season. The last was back in April at the Accu Stadium, when Huddersfield won 34-14. That brought them back to back wins, following on from victory over Wigan, but since then they haven’t won another game and they’re on a losing run of nine games. It means new coach, Jim Lenihan is still looking for a first win. However, with players returning from injury they are showing real signs of improvement.

York’s win at Castleford last week brought a six match losing run to an end, and saw the Knights pick up their fourth win of the year.

Sam Wood is ruled out of this game for York after being given a two match ban, so he’ll miss out on playing against his former club.

If the Knights can get the win, it’ll be their first against Huddersfield since 1995, when Ryedale-York won 42-12 in a second division game. Brad Davis scored two tries that day, with other points coming from Leigh Deakin, Rich Hayes, Chris Hopcutt, Stuart Horton, Jason Lawrence and Chris Judge.

Join us at Hill Dickinson Stadium for York Knights' first ever appearance at Magic WKND!
