Ash Hyde is one of the longest-serving York City Knights Ladies players and has more than played her part in this year’s Betfred Women’s Super League League Leaders’ Shield triumph.
Reflecting on that success, Hyde beamed about the achievement.
“I’m really proud. It’s amazing for the whole team but especially for the girls who have been here for a long time. We’ve been through the highs and lows. I’ve been here for ten years and been on the receiving end of some big losses against Leeds so to win the League Leaders’ Shield by beating them is just fantastic.
“I’ve played with some of these girls for a long time and we’ve been through a lot together. To achieve this as a group is really special but we obviously wouldn’t have achieved it without the new girls who have joined over the last couple of seasons.
“To be able to do it as a whole team is just fab.”
On the growth of the team in the last eighteen months, winger Hyde explained how the development of the squad has helped push her game forwards.
“It’s made me had to fight a lot more to keep my shirt. There are some really good wingers and centres in this squad now that I have to compete with. I’m training harder and it makes me want it even more. Being able to train with some players at a really high level is only helping me develop and play better.”
Last Sunday saw the Knights fans flock to West Yorkshire with the travelling support more than making themselves heard at Headingley, something Hyde believes was special for the whole group.
“That was the highlight of my day. It gave me goosebumps, just hearing them all, and it’s stuff like that that makes it really enjoyable. I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of them because it made such a difference for us on the day.”
