Knights look to get off the mark at Leigh

York City Knights travel to Leigh Centurions in confident mood this Sunday, looking for their first win in the 2020 Betfred Championship.

The Knights have ‘enjoyed’ an enforced two week break off the back of their promising display in Toulouse in round 1, after their home opener against Bradford Bulls was postponed amid the havoc caused by Storm Ciara.

York completed a memorable league double over the Centurions in 2019, winning both home and away games by the tightest of margins - First prevailing 9-8 in monsoon conditions at Bootham Crescent back in March, before a thrilling comeback to win 23-24 at Leigh Sports Village in September.

Leigh are in good form early in 2020 however, and currently sit at the top of the Championship after a 10-36 win at Dewsbury on the opening night, before an impressive 58-10 victory over Sheffield Eagles at LSV last Saturday.

The Centurions this week announced the continuation of their dual-registration agreement with Super League Champions St Helens, meaning former Knights favourite Joe Batchelor may feature this weekend against his old club.

Early team news indicates that outside backs Perry Whiteley and Jimmy Keinhorst (debut) look set to make their first appearances of the year, while Hooker Kriss Brining and prop James Green could also return from knocks.

Connor Robinson misses the game as he sits out a one match suspension, and Danny Washbrook is unavailable due to commitments arranged before signing for the Knights. Prop Ronan Dixon is making progress in his recovery, but remains at least a month away from a return to action.

Tickets are available to purchase for this game from the Club office at York St John University sports campus on Haxby Road until 4pm on Friday, 14th February.

The Knights will receive 20% commission on all away tickets sold directly through the club in every UK based away fixture during the 2020 Championship season, meaning your travelling support will be benefitting the Club directly!
