Knights sign Owen!

York City Knights are delighted to announce the signing of back-rower Lacey Owen with the 21-year-old coming into immediate contention ahead of the visit of Leeds Rhinos this Sunday.

A try-scorer in the 2019 Women’s Super League Final, Owen has also been included in the England Performance Unit but, after an aborted 2020 season before injuries and a break from the sport, is yet to make her international bow.

The former Castleford player, however, has plenty of experience of playing Betfred Women’s Super League rugby and joins a buoyant Knights Ladies that already has a run to the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Semi-Finals under their belt this year.

On top of that, last time out saw our girls spring one of the biggest surprises in recent Women’s Super League history in beating the much-fancied St Helens 13-6 at the LNER Community Stadium.

The arrival of Owen adds further strength to the Knights squad in the centres and back-row and Director of Rugby Lindsay Anfield revealed her delight at her recruitment.

“Lacey has been out of the game for about six months, whilst concentrating on her family and work. She has kept up her strength and fitness whilst away, and has fitted into the squad really smoothly.

“She is an all round athlete with great footwork and aggression in defence. Lacey is also an outgoing and positive character in the group, and we are looking forward to seeing what she can offer in a Knights shirt.”

Owen is set to be included in the Knights’ squad for Sunday’s visit of Leeds Rhinos as part of a Knights triple-header on our first-ever Women’s Day.

Tickets are available now from the York Stadium Management Company Ticket Office HERE, priced at £20 for adults, £15 for concessions and FREE for under-16s.
