York Knights have clinched the Betfred Championship Young Player of the Year, Jack Smith for 2026, thanks to the support of Squad Builder!

The young winger is a product of Leeds Rhinos, and spent last season on loan at London Broncos, where he played 14 times, kicking 49 goals and scoring five tries.

He also kicked two penalties for Leeds Rhinos’ reserves in their 8-0 win over Warrington in the Reserves Grand Final.

After starting his career at Featherstone Lions, he joined the Rhinos’ scholarship system in 2020 and earned a first team contract in 2023.

On signing Smith, Knights coach, Mark Applegarth said: "I'm delighted we've managed to secure him.

"I think he's another player that given time will turn in to a fantastic signing.

"He's got a really good head on him for such a young age and he's keen to improve.

"I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into him coaching wise and I'm sure he'll show everyone what he's capable of as the year progresses."

Smith spoke to the club and said: "I'm looking forward to been a part of it and working with everyone going forward.

"I can’t wait to get started, get around the lads, and bounce on from the year the club had last year!"
