Men's 2022 Squad Numbers Confirmed

Last night at our first Fans’ Forum at the LNER Community Stadium, the Knights confirmed our 2022 Men’s squad numbers.

In front of a packed LNER Lounge, James Ford and his team arrived after training for their first chance to mix with our fans ahead of the new season before sharing what shirt numbers their Knights Class of ’22 will be wearing.

As ever, the number eighteen is dedicated to our fans.

Continuing in the number one shirt is Matty Marsh who, after starring in the halves last year amid injury issues in the pivots, is expected to slot back in to the full-back berth he has occupied so well for the Knights since first playing for the club in dual-registration in 2018.

Half-backs Brendan O’Hagan, Jamie Ellis and Liam Harris will wear numbers six, seven and nineteen, respectively, in 2022. Australian O’Hagan will be hoping for more gametime next season after an injury-hit first campaign for the Knights and he will be competing for half-back spots with the two new recruits – both of whom are no strangers to the Knights.

Ellis spent a brief time on loan with the club from Leigh Centurions this year while Harris has had two previous spells with the Knights, in 2017 and 2019, and has, like Ellis, joined ahead of 2022.

Head Coach Ford has three new wingers for 2022, with Joe Brown and Will Oakes taking the numbers two and five. Parachute Regiment soldier Olly Butterworth will wear the number thirty-three for the club and Excel product AJ Towse – who made his Knights debut in our Betfred Challenge Cup Round Three tie against Wigan Warriors in March – moves up two numbers to twenty-three.

Towse’s fellow Excel products and Heworth juniors Toby Warren and Myles Harrison, both so impressive in their appearances towards the end of the 2021 campaign, both move up the squad number list, the former taking twenty-one with the latter set to don the twenty-two shirt.

In the pack, new recruit Masi Matongo will wear the number eight shirt while recent Scotland debutant Jack Teanby continues in number ten, the shirt he has worn since joining the Knights ahead of 2019.

Captain Chris Clarkson will, once again, wear the eleven jersey with powerhouse Pauli Pauli, newly signed from Salford Red Devils, has been handed the number twelve. Fellow new recruit Jordan Thompson will wear thirteen after signing from Leigh Centurions.

Ronan Dixon and Marcus Stock will wear the numbers fifteen and sixteen, respectively, while Danny Kirmond continues in the seventeen jersey he wore throughout 2021.

Huddersfield Giants loanee Ronan Michael will wear twenty-four this season while fellow recent signing Jack Logan will wear twenty-five.

Ford will have three hookers to pick from next season, with Will Jubb continuing in the number nine while new signing Sam Davis has been given the fourteen jersey. Kriss Brining moves to the number twenty.
