Revenge is on the cards!
York City Knights are delighted to confirm that we will open out Betfred Championship campaign – and kick start Premier Sports’ coverage of the competition – on Monday 31st January at home to Featherstone Rovers.
James Ford’s new-look Knights squad will take on our West Yorkshire rivals in the latest instalment of a rivalry which saw the two teams face off in 2021 at Wembley Stadium in our AB Sundecks 1895 Cup final.
The likes of Pauli Pauli, Jamie Ellis and Joe Brown – among others – will be looking to start their first campaign as Knights in style in what will be spectacle both on and off the field.
Featherstone, now under the leadership of Super League Grand Final-winning coach Brian McDermott, fell just short of promotion in 2021 after their Million Pound Game defeat to Toulouse Olympique but are, once again, dubbed one of the teams to beat next season.
The Millenium Stadium club have brought in full-back Brandon Pickersgill and winger Luke Briscoe, as well as former Knights half-back Morgan Smith who, due to an unfortunate ACL injury, never played for the Knights before leaving the club.
Since our promotion back to the second tier in 2019, the Knights have had several high-quality, enthralling encounters against the West Yorkshiremen, not least our August match-up two years ago at Bootham Crescent where the Knights, with a 22-18 victory, secured our spot in the Betfred Championship Play-Offs.
For the first Premier Sports Monday night live match, everyone at the Knights is looking forward to our fans bringing the brilliant atmosphere we all experienced at the end of 2021 to the LNER Community Stadium for what will be a spectacle both on and off the pitch!
