York Valkyrie were heavily beaten by Wigan Warriors in the Betfred Women’s Super League, losing 44-0 at Edge Hall Road.
The reigning champions remain unbeaten at the top of the table after scoring eight tries without reply.
York had spells, but couldn’t break down the team which is turning out to be the runaway leaders.
The Valkyrie were on the back foot early in the game, as Wigan came out with intent. The scored the first of their tries through Megan Williams, who took a pass from Izzy Rowe before dummying her way under the posts. Rowe added the first of her goals.
Jenna Foubister followed that up with another score beneath the posts, and Wigan were scoring at a point a minute.
York did manage to build some pressure and stop the scoreboard ticking over, but they couldn’t turn it into points.
A penalty led to more Warriors points, as they shipped the ball left for Molly Jones to power her way over for another converted try.
Lisa Parker went close for the Valkyrie, taking the ball on the last of the set, but Wigan showed power in defence as well as attack to deny her.
Another York error led to more good ball for the Warriors, and as Rowe kicked into the goal area, Kelsey Gentles was there to score.
Jones scored again before the break, again showing superb strength to hold off the defence on her way over. Rowe missed her only conversion of the half.
Both sides started the second half with a flurry of mistakes, and it was another York error that led to another Wigan try as they moved possession to left for Elise Derbyshire to go in.
Eva Hunter followed that just three minutes later, before crossing again just nine minutes later to complete her brace. Rowe converted both from the touchline to complete the scoring.
