York Knights 36-12 London Broncos - Match Report

York Knights progressed to the Betfred Challenge Cup Quarter-Finals for the first time since 2004 after a dominant second-half performance secured a 36-12 win over London Broncos at the LNER Community Stadium.

York trailed 12-4 midway through the first half but rallied to score six unanswered tries to book their place in the last eight of the Betfred Challenge Cup.

Olly Butterworth grabbed a hat-trick on his Knights debut while Josh Daley, Joe Brown, Jordan Thompson and Jesse Dee also crossed the whitewash for the home side.

The Knights will now host Betfred Super League side Leigh Leopards in the Quarter-Finals on the Betfred Challenge Cup on the weekend of June 16-18.

For the second week running, the Knights made a blistering start. After London failed to gather the kick-off, Butterworth grounded a Dee grubber in the right corner just seconds into his York debut.

The lead was short lived as some silky feet from Alex Walker get over down the right edge before Jarred Bassett broke a couple of tacklers from an inside line.

Oli Leyland converted both tries to put London 12-4 up after 20 minutes.

The Knights cut the gap just before half-time however as Butterworth found some room down the right edge from a shift play.

Andrew Henderson's side picked up from where they left off in the second half as Daley crossed from a blind-side play from Will Jubb's pass.

Brown followed five minutes later from a dummy close to the line in the left corner.

Front-rower Thompson then rolled back the years with a brilliant step before cutting through the London line from 20m out before James Glover - who finished with four goals - added a penalty goal on the hour.

With a dozen minutes left, Butterworth completed his hat-trick after finishing Chris Clarkson's cut-out pass.

Dee added further gloss to the scoreline when he slid through tired London defence in the final minute.
