York Knights earned another two points in the Betfred Championship with a dominant 58-8 win over Hunslet RLFC at the LNER Community Stadium.
The Knights scored eleven tries, with four for winger, Ben Jones-Bishop, and braces for Scott Galeano and Toa Mata’afa on his debut.
After leading 22-8 at half time, York scored 36 unanswered points to ease to the win against the bottom of the table side.
The result leaves York in fifth place in the Championship after ten games.
Head coach, Mark Applegarth made some changes for the game, with Toa Mata’afa making his debut, and Ata Hingano rested with a shoulder problem. Connor Bailey was rested, along with Joe Brown.
However, the Knights still played some great rugby, and opened the scoring after just six minutes, when Jones-Bishop got his first of the game from a pass from Liam Harris.
Jones-Bishop took another Harris pass minutes later to get his second and exploit some weak Hunslet defending.
Coby Nichol pulled one back for Hunslet, before Joe Law was the next to score for York after work from Paul McShane.
Toa Mata’afa got his first try on his debut, beating a handful of Hunslet defenders to touch down, and Harris added his third conversion of the game.
Lee Gaskell scored after some good hands from Hunslet just before the break, but York were in control with a 14 point lead at the break.
The Knights moved up a gear in the second half, with the scoring starting with Jones-Bishop getting his hat-trick, before Galeano went in with Harris again involved in the build up.
Harris got one of his own, beating Greg Eden with some typical footwork to touch down, with Galeano getting a second soon after, taking the ball from McShane to hit the 40 point mark.
Harris was provider again for Mata’afa’s second try, Ukuma Ta’ai showed his strength to crash over with defenders hanging off him, and the final word went to Jones-Bishop, who exploited an overlap to go in for his fourth. Harris tagged on the conversion, for his seventh successful kick of the game.
