York RLFC Foundation are delighted to announce a new block of Autumn training sessions for our Learning Disability Rugby League (LDRL) Programme, with training moved to a new Monday night session starting from Monday 13th October, 7-8 pm!

This is an extension to the season for our current playing squad, enabling them to continue practising their skill and socialising around the sport we all love and enjoy. By introducing a different night of the week and time of the session, we hope to encourage new players to come down and join us and see what all the fuss is about!

York RLFC's Learning Disability Rugby League side is a proud member of the Community Integrated Care Learning Disability Super League (LDSL), launched in 2019.

This non-competitive variant of the sport, centred around inclusion and participation, LDRL is open to players with learning disabilities and allows players to represent York RLFC against other rugby league club foundations.

The Community Integrated Care LDSL, is built on a partnership between Community Integrated Care, the Rugby Football League (RFL), and Super League. As the first initiative of its kind in world sport, the Learning Disability Super League (LDSL) allows individuals with learning disabilities and autism to play a specially adapted version of Rugby League for the clubs they love, offering participants the unparalleled thrill of participating on some of the sport’s biggest stages.

The programme aims to promote skill development, boost confidence, foster positive experiences, and encourage social inclusion. The LDSL programme across the country has enabled hundreds of people to represent the clubs they love, giving them the chance to play on some of the sport's biggest stages. However, this partnership goes far beyond the playing field, providing regular media and match-day volunteering roles to those supported by Community Integrated Care.

Dawn Shore, York RLFC Foundation Inclusion Officer said: “The Inclusion Programme is a key component of the Foundation's wide range of initiatives, and we are pleased to extend the 2025 Learning Disability Rugby League season. We are urging any new players thinking of attending to get in touch and find out more!

“After a great season, many of the players simply did not want to stop, and we appreciate it’s a long off-season. That is why we felt the importance of creating this new opportunity to extend the season.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the players, families, carers, volunteers and partners for all their efforts and contributions to the programme.’

York RLFC's LDRL side returns to training on Monday 13th October, 7pm-8pm, at the York St John University Sports Park, on Haxby Road (YO31 8TA), with further sessions running every Monday thereafter.

All sessions are free to attend, although participants are asked to complete the following form by clicking HERE.
