York RLFC Foundation schools programme is on track to reach more than 1000 children in the Selby District by the end of the summer!

By the end of the school year, York RLFC Foundation schools programme will have reached a new recent high number of children in the Selby area, who will have benefited from curriculum Rugby League delivery, split across seven schools in the district.

The landmark was achieved through our successful Schools Alliance PE Programme, support from our governing body, as well as our 'Healthy Hearts' taster sessions, thanks to funding received through from Drax Power Station Community Fund.

In Selby, the Foundation has managed to expand its work by increasing the number of primary schools receiving our support, while also aiding the launch of a new Community Club, Raiders Rugby League, within the Selby District.

Now, in its second year, York RLFC Foundation has a partnership with the Rugby Football League aimed at growing rugby league in North Yorkshire with the shared belief that the region has significant potential for growth.

This partnership has enabled York RLFC Foundation to create and support playing opportunities for primary-aged children in the Selby area.

Following on from the success of last year, the weekly community sessions now take place at the new venue of Barlby High School for primary-aged children in school years 3-6 (Key Stage 2).

York RLFC Foundation Community Coach Mark Prangnell said: “We are pleased with how well our school’s programme has been received within the Selby District and the number of children we have been able to reach.

“Our school’s programme has enabled us to signpost children to our regular weekly Community sessions at Barlby High as we continue with our goal of bringing regular Rugby League back to Selby with Raiders Rugby League.

“We have a good number of children attending the Raiders Community sessions since restarting at the end of April. We already have the potential of fielding two teams playing at U9’s and U11’s. That said, we are still encouraging new players to attend!

“Thank you to all the schools who have welcomed us in to run sessions and to our partners for their support in facilitating this delivery.”
