York RLFC is delighted to launch the York RLFC RISE Development Academy, a brand-new girls-only development programme designed to support talented young players on the club’s female performance pathway.

The academy has been created to provide aspiring athletes with access to a high-quality development environment, helping them develop their skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the standards, values and culture that underpin the success of the York Valkyrie. Delivered by York Valkyrie coaches and players, the programme will offer participants the opportunity to learn from some of the leading figures in the women’s game while experiencing the expectations of a high-performance rugby league environment.

The launch of the RISE Development Academy comes at an exciting time for girls’ and women’s rugby league in York. The community game has experienced significant growth in recent years, with increasing numbers of girls taking up the sport across local clubs and schools. This growth has been driven by the continued success of the York Valkyrie and the commitment of community rugby league clubs across the region to provide opportunities for female players. The RISE Development Academy has been developed to build upon this momentum, strengthening the pathway available to young players and creating more opportunities for the next generation of female rugby league talent.

Sessions will focus on key technical and tactical aspects of the game, including core rugby league skills, tackle technique, game understanding and decision-making. Players will also receive introductions to strength and conditioning, nutrition and other important areas of athlete development, giving them a greater understanding of what is required to progress within the sport and reach their full potential.

The programme is open to girls in the Under 13s to Under 15s and Under 16s to Under 18s age groups. Its aim is to support the development of talented young athletes while strengthening the pathway into the women’s game and creating future opportunities for aspiring Valkyrie stars.

Importantly, players will continue to train and play for their existing community clubs and schools while accessing additional coaching and development opportunities through the RISE Development Academy. The programme has been specifically designed to complement the excellent work already taking place throughout the community game, ensuring that players remain connected to the clubs and environments that play such a vital role in their rugby league journey.

Open access sessions will take place at York St John University Sports Park, Haxby Road, York, on:

Wednesday 29 July

Wednesday 5 August

Wednesday 12 August.

Players in the Under 13s to Under 15s age group will train from 2:00pm to 3:30pm, while the Under 16s to Under 18s session will run from 4:30pm to 6:00pm.

Best of all, the programme is completely free of charge, ensuring that as many players as possible can benefit from this exciting opportunity.

Whether you are already playing rugby league and looking to take your game to the next level, or simply want to challenge yourself in a player development environment, the York RLFC RISE Development Academy provides a fantastic opportunity to learn, develop and be inspired by some of the best coaches and players in the sport.

We look forward to welcoming the next generation of female rugby league talent and continuing to strengthen the pathway that supports girls and women in the game across York and North Yorkshire!
