York RLFC are delighted to announce that Club legend Graham Steadman will return to the field for our double header on Sunday 3rd September at the LNER Community Stadium.
Steadman will represent Rugby League All Stars, who are taking on Heworth Masters from 12pm, ahead of York Knights' clash with Swinton Lions in the Betfred Championship at 3pm.
York RLFC Hall of Famer Steadman will make his first appearance on the field at York since leaving the Club in 1986.
The half-back made 97 appearances between 1982 and 1986 for York, scoring 63 tries, 253 goals and 14 field-goals to firmly establish as a Club legend.
Steadman went on feature for Featherstone Rovers, Gold Coast Chargers and Castleford Tigers, earning representative call-ups to Yorkshire and Great Britain.
Discussing his return to the city on September 10th, Steadman said: “Having spent most of the season watching the Knights and the Valkyrie from the stands at the LNER, I can’t wait to get out on that hallowed turf.
"We’ll have to wait and see if my legs can get me over 20m though!" he laughed.
“This experience makes me think that I’ve almost come full circle, having really started my professional career at York and now potentially playing my last game there too, having not played in the city for almost 40 years.
“I do play on a regular basis for the Rugby League All Stars, which has been running for around 10 years now and has been doing some fantastic work raising money for Life For A Kid.
“I was one of the original players to be part of the team and we’re really proud to have raised over £1m since then. It’s been an incredible journey, meeting some great people and getting to continue playing rugby league.”
