York Valkyrie partners with women's charity in York's Dragon Boat Race

York RLFC Valkyrie partners with women's charity - Kyra Women's Project to compete in York Rotary's Dragon Boat Challenge 2023!

On Sunday 9th July, Kyra Women's Project and non-playing York Valkyrie players will join 35 other teams on the River Ouse to compete in York's famous charity boat race.

On the same day, remaining York Valkyrie players will play away in the Betfred Women's Super League against Huddersfield Giants (2.00pm).

The boat race returns in the name of charity for its 21st year to host 36 teams on the Ouse who will all compete for various awards including the Challenge Trophy and 'Best Dressed' award.

Kyra Events Co-ordinator, Stephanie Jones, said:

"We’re so thrilled to have a partnership with York RLFC.

The Valkyries are a team of strong women, both physically and mentally, who are making strides in the sporting world and helping create more recognition for Women in Rugby."

"Kyra is a charity that helps women to rebuild and find their inner strength, the link between our organisations is undeniable and it is fantastic to be able to support each other.

At Kyra, we know the importance of women uplifting each other, the Valkyrie players help to inspire our members and we hope our members do the same for the players with the tremendous journeys they take in improving their lives."

York Valkyrie and Kyra Women's Project will take to the water dressed as superheroes, and hope to raise £2000 to support the service provided by the women's charity.

Donations to the fundraising page can be made HERE.

Spectators wanting more information on the day can visit the North Bank, across the river, for the Kyra Stand for games and more!

Ticket information for the York Valkyrie v Huddersfield Giants game will be available soon.
