đŸ€Â York RLFC Match Previews are proudly sponsored by David Lloyd York!

York Valkyrie return to action in the Betfred Women’s Super League with a game against Leigh Leopards at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (12pm)!

After a break last weekend for the Nines Festival, it’s back to the battle for a place in the end of season play offs, and a potential defence of the Super League title for Lindsay Anfield’s side.

After six rounds of the competition, York are third in the table, three points behind leaders Wigan Warriors, having won four and lost two of their opening games.

After a strong start to their first year in the top flight, Leigh sit in sixth place, with two wins from five matches.

Having only last met in round four, the Valkyrie will start as favourites to pick up the points.

Leigh began life as a Super League club with big wins over Barrow Raiders and Warrington Wolves. However, they’ve since lost to Huddersfield, York, Wigan and Leeds.

This will be the third time York have met the Leopards this season. York won 52-0 when they faced each other in the quarter final of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup, with the Valkyrie running in ten tries including a brace each for Jazz Rampton and Emma Kershaw.

In the league, it was a 26-0 victory for York, with tries from Eboni Partington, Izzy Bibby, Sinead Peach, Savannah Andrade and player of the match, Agnes Wood.

There’s plenty of experience in the Leigh squad, with former Wigan players, Becky Greenfield and Alice Fisher and Emily Baggaley from Warrington among those having previously played Super League.

Captain, Storm Cobain is an Ireland international.

For the Valkyrie, there could be home debuts for new signings, Sarah Menaa, Adoaha Akwiwu and Peace Lekuru.
