York Valkyrie take on Betfred Womenâs Super League leaders, Wigan Warriors in a historic game in Newcastle on Sunday (1pm)!
The teams meet at Blaydon Rugby Union club, as part of a double header with Newcastle Thunder taking on Whitehaven in Betfred League 1.
Itâll be the first ever womenâs Super League game to be played in Newcastle, and both teams will have their respective silverware - the Betfred Womenâs Super League Trophy and the Betfred Challenge Cup - with them and on display.
York go into the game on the back of a seven match winning run, including last weekâs 86-0 win at home to Warrington Wolves. Lindsay Anfieldâs side has only conceded two tries in their last five games.
Wigan havenât lost at all in any competition this season, and have only dropped league points in a 22-22 draw with St.Helens in June. Last week, they beat Leigh 72-0.
It leaves Denis Bettsâ side a point clear at the top of the table, with the best attack and defence in the league. York are three points behind in third place, having lost just two league games.
That includes the 40-6 defeat by Wigan on the opening day of the season at the Brick Community Stadium, when Ellie Williamson scored the only try for the Valkyrie.
Both clubs have been able to name settled sides of late, with Wigan including a number of newly capped internationals. Jenna Foubister, Eva Hunter, Molly Jones, Grace Banks all played for England in this monthâs international against Wales.
