York Valkyrie secured third place in the Betfred Women’s Super League with a 48-6 win at Barrow Raiders.

Director of Rugby, Lindsay Anfield made a number of changes to her side for the game, including giving Under 19s players, Ruby Ellis and Liv Turner their debuts.

However, the Valkyrie still had too much for their opponents and eased to the win.

York got off to a great start after just 8 minutes, when a strong run down the centre of the field led to a first try of the game for Agnes Wood.

The Valkyrie followed this up with Kira Fitzpatrick taking advantage of more strong work up the middle, and when Wood crossed for a second on the half hour from 30 metres out, the lead was 14 points.

Williamson added to the lead when she scored on the last of the set, finding space in the corner to get the ball down. She couldn’t add the conversion, but Lindsay Anfield’s side were in control at half time.

Evie Sexton scored for York not long after the restart after a Barrow error, and Tara Moxon followed after showing some great footwork. Both were converted by Williamson.

Liv Turner scored on her debut, and the Valkyrie were on a roll.

Izzy Bibby got the first of her brace after a quick play the ball which allowed her to dive over from acting half, before Barrow got their only try of the game.

Jodie Morley made the most of a York error at the restart, and Nicole Stewart converted.

York soon hit back with another from Bibby, converted by Izzy Brennan, and a solid afternoon’s work was complete.
