Hunslet RLFC v York Knights: Match Preview

đŸ€Â York RLFC Match Previews are proudly sponsored by David Lloyd York!

York Knights are back on the road this weekend in the Betfred Championship, when they travel to the South Leeds Stadium to take on Hunslet RLFC (3pm)!

After beating Oldham last weekend, the Knights are still top of the table, having won 12 consecutive league games, and 14 in all competitions.

It’s in stark contrast to Hunslet’s form, who are bottom of the Championship, following their promotion last year.

They have won just two of their league games, beating Batley 28-24 at The Fox’s Biscuits Stadium, and Sheffield Eagles 22-18 at the Steel City Stadium. Since that win over the Eagles, Hunslet have lost their last eight games.

During that run, Hunslet have changed their coach, with Kyle Trout coming in to replace Dean Muir, who had guided them to last season’s promotion. Trout stepped up from assistant coach, a role he’d occupied since 2024, to take charge.

When the two clubs met at the LNER Community Stadium in May, York were 58-8 winners. Ben Jones-Bishop scored four tries that day, with two for Scott Galeano and Toa Mata’afa, while there was one each for Joe Law, Liam Harris and Ukuma Ta’ai.

Hunslet have had a number of injuries recently, but they were able to name a squad which included the experience of former Super League players, forward, Kevin Laroyer and half-back Lee Gaskell for last week’s 34-24 defeat at Doncaster. Others, such as former Castleford winger, Greg Eden has been ruled out for the season with a hamstring problem.

For the Knights, coach, Mark Applegarth expects Ata Hingano to be back in contention, after three games without the half back due to an ankle problem.
