Thompson proud to be a leader in the pack

With five consecutive wins to their name, the Knights are in a rich vein of form and in the midst of it all has been Jordan Thompson.

One of the Knights’ ever-presents in 2022, the former Castleford and Leigh man has led from the front in the thirteen jersey and, after our 30-12 victory over Whitehaven on Sunday, he shared his belief that the team are growing.

“It was a good performance. We’re looking to build each week on what we’ve doing well and putting it together on the pitch. We knew Whitehaven would be a big test and they’ve got a few big lads.

“They don’t give much ball possession away and we were in a fight the whole game.

“I know the scoreline looked better for us towards the end but we came out on top, just as we wanted to.”

The last few weeks have seen the Knights pack dominate opponents and, against a similarly big unit, Thompson revealed his pride in seeing the forwards get on top of Whitehaven.

“Once again, our boys stood up in the middle and I think we got over the top of another strong pack which is good to see.

“We’ve got a good mixture of players in the middle. I’m fortunate to play off the back of a few big boys like Teanby and Pauli so, for me, it’s my job to show my worth in my performances on the pitch. I put in as much as I can and look to lead by example so if people want to know me for that then that’s great.

After witnessing several wins and good performances from the team so far in 2022, the Knights fans have truly made their support known and Thompson, a real fans’ favourite who has been spending time with the fans post-match along with his teammates, expressed his thanks to them.

“I’ve always had a great relationship with the fans and it’s a small thing to give back at the end of the games when there’s kids waiting for you.

“To take two minutes of your time before jumping in the shower isn’t a big ask and it can make a kid’s day. I’m pleased that the fans are happy with me and my efforts – long may that continue.”
