Toulouse Olympique v York Knights: Match Preview

York Knights travel to take on Toulouse Olympique at Stade Ernest-Wallon in the Betfred Championship on Saturday looking for their first win in France since 2011 (5pm UK time). 


Coming up against York that day was Knights assistant coach Ged Corcoran and the current Toulouse head coach, Sylvain Houles. 


York won that match 16-10 and the only other victory against the French club since then came at the Huntington Stadium in 2013 when the Knights won 30-29 in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup.


This year, Toulouse won the reverse fixture in round two, 20-14.


Olympique built a 20-0 lead before Harrison Hansen and Sitileki Akauola were both sent off.


York scored three tries in the last eight minutes from Joe Brown, Connor Bailey and Jesse Dee but the late comeback wasn’t enough to snatch a win.


After that, Toulouse lost their next two games before building a run to climb to second place in the table.


Their 20-18 defeat last weekend at Doncaster was their first loss in 13 games.


That unbeaten run included a 32-4 win at home to leaders, Wakefield Trinity, to become the first team to beat them in the Championship this season. 


Toulouse’s squad boasts plenty of Super League experience, with Harrison Hansen and Sitileki Akauola joined by the likes of former St.Helens forward, Dominique Peyroux and Olly Ashall-Bott who had time at Huddersfield Giants. 


The Knights still lie in eighth place in the table, just two points off the top six following last weekend’s 54-12 win over bottom club, Dewsbury Rams. 


Josh Daley should be back in contention for York for the trip after missing last week because of illness, along with Connor Fitzsimmons who also missed out against Dewsbury.


Coach, Mark Applegarth also hopes full-back Will Dagger could be available as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.
