York Knights return to action in the Betfred Super League this week against Leigh Leopards at the LNER Community Stadium on Friday 17th April (8pm)!
Both clubs come into the game on the back of Challenge Cup quarter defeats, with York losing at holders, Hull KR, and Leigh going out to Warrington Wolves.
It’s been a disappointing start to the season for Adrian Lam’s team, who, like the Knights, have been dealing with a lengthy injury list.
They’ve managed two wins from their opening seven games, and sit below York in the table on points difference. The beat Leeds Rhinos, 26-14 on the opening day of the season, and then edged past Toulouse, 21-20. Both those wins came at home.
The last meeting between York and Leigh came in 2023, when the Leopards beat the Knights 34-14 in the quarter final of the Challenge Cup. Leigh went on to win the trophy that year.
That game is remembered by York fans for the lead at half time, built with the help of a try from Myles Harrison. He collected the ball from AJ Towse who had acrobatically kept the ball in play from a Leigh kick. Towse went on to sign for Leigh from 2025.
Before that, York met them three times in the Championship in 2022, the year that Leigh won promotion, losing just one league match all season.
At home, York were beaten 40-4 early in the season, before heavy defeats at the end of the year at Leigh Sports Village as the Leopards prepared for life in the top flight. The last of those games was a 70-10 loss for York in the play off semi finals.
Following their promotion, Leigh have gone on to make an impact in Super League, making the play offs every year. In 2025, the lost to Wigan in the play off semi-final.
York have David Nofoaluma available for the game after being cup tied, and Jon Bennison and Kieran Hudson are included after injury.
