York Valkyrie v Leeds Rhinos: Match Preview

York Valkyrie host Leeds Rhinos in the Betfred Women’s Super League in their latest game in the Super 4s on Sunday 23rd August at the LNER Community Stadium (12pm)!

The game is a double header, with York Knights taking on Leeds Rhinos in the Betfred Super League at 3pm.

It’s only two weeks since the teams last met at Headingley, in the reverse fixture. Leeds won 38-16 that day in what for large parts was a competitive encounter. However the Rhinos took the game away from the Valkyrie in the second half, as Ruby Enright went on to score a total of four tries.

Lois Forsell’s team held off a challenge from St.Helens last week to win 34-24 and continue their unbeaten run. Their only league defeat this season was on the opening day, when Wigan beat them 18-10. Consequently, the Rhinos are two points behind Wigan at the top of the table.

York are looking for their first win in the Super 4s, having lost at Headingley and then going down heavily last week at Wigan, 44-0. They’re fourth in the table, two points behind St.Helens, and it’s the top three that will go through to the semi-finals of the play offs.

It’ll be the third time the Valkyrie have met Leeds this year, with the first game in June in the first half of this year’s competition. That game at Headingley ended with a 30-10 defeat for Leon Pryce’s team.

This is the first time this year York will have had a chance to face Leeds on their home ground, where they’ll be looking to put in an improved showing in front of what’s expected to be a large crowd.

The Valkyrie's game kicks off at 12.00pm followed by the Knights at 3pm on Sunday 23rd August.
