York Knights travel to the Accu Stadium to take on Huddersfield Giants on Saturday 4th April (3pm) for their Rivals Round game in the Betfred Super League!
After two tight contests which ended in defeat in their last two games against Wigan Warriors (23-22) and Wakefield Trinity (26-14), York make the journey looking for their third league win of the season.
Huddersfield head into the match having won their first league game of the year at the weekend, with an incredible 34-16 win at Wigan. The result came following the sacking of head coach, Luke Robinson during the week, with head of rugby, Andy Kelly taking charge of the first team along with Liam Finn.
The Giants have had a long injury list to deal with in the opening stages of the year, with key players including George Flannagan Jr ruled out, along with the likes of Matty English and Harry Rushton.
However, Niall Evalds, Zack Woolford and Adam Clune were all back for them last week.
York have injury concerns of their own, with captain, Liam Harris, forward Jordan Thompson and now full-back, Toa Mata’afa all ruled out.
The two clubs met in pre-season, as part of Matty English’s testimonial. That day, Huddersfield were 22-4 winners on what was York’s first run out since gaining promotion to the top flight.
Before that, the last time they’d met was in the fourth round of the Betfred Challenge Cup in 2007, when the Giants won 74-4.
Their last league meeting was a second division encounter in 1995, when Huddersfield beat Ryedale-York 34-7. York’s points that day came from a Leigh Deakin try, converted by Andy Precious and a drop goal from Steve Dobson.
A win for the Knights this weekend will be the first since they met in the league in April 1994 at Leeds Road, Huddersfield, when York won 23-12.
