Skylights to light up Knights summer!

York City Knights are pleased to announce that local band Skylights are set to provide the soundtrack to our summer, as their songs will be used on our weekly match highlights videos and at the LNER Community Stadium on match days.

The up and coming indie band enjoyed a successful year in 2019, releasing a number of singles and performing to sell out crowds in York, Newcastle and Leeds, culminating in a 4,500 capacity sell out show in Millennium Square as part of Leeds United’s centenary celebrations.

This summer Skylights are looking forward to supporting fellow York stars Shed Seven in a huge gig at Halifax’s famous Piece Hall.

The sports-mad band are already well known amongst fans of Leeds United and boxer Josh Warrington, and their latest single ‘YRA’ (Yorkshire’s Republic Army) was also featured on Soccer AM, Radio X and BBC Introducing.

The band also have a York City Knights connection through guitarist Turnbull Smith, who is a regular supporter at Knights home games, with his son Milo being a player mascot on a number of occasions. Smith also works as an electrician with former winger Matt Chilton, and his Brother-in-law is former Knights prop Kyle Plamer, who played under Mick Cook and Paul March back in 2007/8.

Smith said: “Last season was a great experience for me. I brought my 7 year old Milo along to the games and it was a cracking family friendly atmosphere, with the added bonus of great performances on the pitch.

“It inspired my lad to pick up a rugby ball and have a go. His uncle has already been giving him some hints on how to put his shoulder in!

“I’m absolutely delighted that Skylights will be able to help contribute to what will hopefully be an exciting summer both on and off the pitch!’

Knights spokesman Gav Wilson said: “I’m absolutely buzzing that the Knights will be able to champion the Skylights throughout the summer of 2020. As a huge fan of indie music having been to countless gigs from bands like Courteeners and York’s own Shed Seven, Skylights have been a welcome addition to my playlist.

“Part of the Knights ethos is to celebrate the local community and our awesome city of York, and a great local band like Skylights will be a perfect fit for our exciting match day atmosphere at the LNER Community Stadium.

“Skylights will hopefully be the soundtrack to a successful Knights summer… YRA!”
