York Knights meet Wakefield Trinity on Sunday for a place in the Championship Grand Final at the DIY Kitchens Stadium (3pm)!
It’s only the second time the Knights have reached this stage of the play-offs.
The last time was in 2022, when the run ended with a semi-final defeat at Leigh Centurions, who went on to win promotion to Super League.
The Knights earned their place this time after beating Widnes Vikings at the LNER Community Stadium last weekend in the eliminators. Winger, Tom Lineham scored a hat-trick as York won 27-10.
Wakefield Trinity have had a week off ahead of the game, courtesy of their first place finish this season in the Championship.
It’s only a month since the sides last met in the regular league season, with Wakefield running out 20-4 winners on their own ground.
Brad Ward scored the Knights’ only try that day, in response to tries from Max Jowitt, Luke Gale, Jermaine McGillvray and Derrell Olpherts for the home side.
That was their third meeting of the season, with the Knights losing 50-6 at home in the league earlier in the year, and 40-4 in the 1895 Cup group stages in their first home game of 2024.
Wakefield are undefeated in their last five home meetings with York, having won four and drawn one.
York's last away victory against Trinity was a 12-8 Second Division win on 11th November 1984.
Again, the game takes Knights’ coach, Mark Applegarth back to the club he coached last year, and pits him against Daryl Powell who has coached Trinity to the top spot of the Championship this year to clinch the League Leaders shield.
The winners will meet either Toulouse Olympique or Bradford Bulls in the Grand Final on 20th October.
York full-back, Will Dagger could be available for the match, after more than a month out with a calf injury.
If selected, Knights half-back, Ata Hingano will make his 100th career appearance.
For Wakefield, nine of the squad are coming to the end of their time with the club.
Luke Gale and Jermaine McGillvary are retiring after long careers in the sport, while others are moving on, including Josh Bowden, Derrell Olpherts and Iain Thornley.
