York Knights face Super Leagueās Hull KR in what's sure to be an exciting night under the lights in the third round of the Betfred Challenge Cup on Friday at the LNER Community Stadium (7.30pm KO)!
Itās already the second time the two sides will have faced each other this year, having met in the Amsterdam Challenge just two weeks earlier where the Knights ran out winners 26-12 against a young Hull KR side.
The 2023 Challenge Cup runners-up will be keen to make sure they donāt fall to a similar scoreline in this tie.
Rovers coach, Willie Peters said he will name a stronger side for this match up, including many of their Super League stars and new signings.
Half-back, Mikey Lewis is making his return to York, after spending time on loan at the LNER Community Stadium in 2021. He made a real impact at the club in just six games, and scored at Wembley in the 2021 AB Sundecks 1895 Cup final at Wembley.
Fearsome forward, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves could also make his debut after signing for Rovers in the off season. The New Zealand international has a big reputation, having played more than 300 times for Sydney Roosters in the NRL.
After a comprehensive 72-12 win over Keighley Cougars in round 2, York will go approach the game with confidence. Theyāve shown some slick attacking play and solid defence in both of their opening run-outs this year.
While Brad Ward and Kieran Hudson will still be ruled out with hamstring problems, Will Dagger should come back into contention for the Knights after being ruled out last weekend because of concussion protocols. If selected, it will see Dagger come up against his former club, who he made more than 50 appearances for across six seasons.
