York RLFC 2023 Excel Lions Launch

This years York RLFC Excel Lions Boys Player Development Programme is launching with sessions staring on the 17th April.

This years lead coach is York RLFC player Josh Daley, who is a teacher and has a background in working on development programmes in Australia. Alongside Josh will be a number of current Knights players and programme coaches to help young players reach their potential.

The programme is open to all boys and delivers sessions on Rugby League skill development and application, strength & conditioning, nutrition and lifestyle training all at York St John University Sports park.

The first block begins on Monday 17th April, 6.15pm-7.30pm, for boys in years 7, 8, & 9 at school and although many of the players that attend are likely to come from community rugby league clubs, it is open to new players interested in playing Rugby League.

The programme aims to increase the number of quality Rugby League players aged 12-16 playing the sport by developing all players regardless of their past playing experience. The Excel programme, which uses the same state-of-the-art sports facilities at York St John University as used by the Knights and Valkyries teams, forms part of the York RLFC player pathway programme and is rated as outstanding by the RFL.

This block of coaching is for players studying in school years 7, 8 and 9 exclusively with further blocks for U15’s and 16’s being announced in the coming weeks.
