York Valkyrie v Huddersfield Giants: Match Preview

York Valkyrie return to the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday to face Huddersfield Giants in the Betfred Women’s Super League (noon).


It is their first home game after two matches on the road, with first a 10-6 defeat by St.Helens followed by a 61-0 victory at Warrington Wolves last weekend.


A win against the Giants will keep the Valkyrie firmly in the race for a home tie in the play-offs at the end of the season. 


They’re currently fourth in the table having won seven of their ten games.


They sit eight points ahead of the Giants who lie one place behind them in fifth.


Lindsay Anfield’s side were 50-12 winners when they last met the Giants in May, scoring ten tries. That included a hat-trick for Emma Kershaw and a brace for Eboni Partington.


Huddersfield’s three wins so far have come against Warrington (32-10) and two against Featherstone Rovers (44-8 and 30-10).


They go into the game on the back of a 70-0 defeat last week at in-form Wigan Warriors.


The Giants squad includes winger Amelia Brown who broke into the England National Performance Squad this year. 


Former Leeds Rhino, Sam Hulme is also part of their set up, having moved across West Yorkshire in the close season. 


The Valkyrie have been finding form again in their last two games after a spell of injuries and players being unavailable.


Sade Rihari and Bettie Lambert could come back into contention after playing for Sheffield Eagles last week on dual registration.
