Barrow Raiders Ladies v York Valkyrie: Match Preview

York Valkyrie return to action this weekend with a trip to Barrow Raider Ladies on Sunday 12th July (3pm) in the Betfred Women’s Super League!

After a week’s break, the league resumes this weekend for the final round of games before the competition splits into competitions between the top four and bottom four.

Last time out was a 44-0 win at Featherstone Rovers for Leon Pryce’s Valkyrie, leaving them in fourth place, two points behind third place St.Helens, and above Huddersfield Giants with a healthier points difference.

Barrow, who narrowly lost 30-24 at Huddersfield two weeks ago sit bottom of the table, having lost all of their six league games so far.

It’s the first time this year that the two have met, but the Valkyrie have won all their previous Super League encounters. Last year York won 58-0 at home, before a 48-6 win at Barrow in September. Izzy Bibby, Agnes Wood, Kira Fitzpatrick, Tara Moxon, Evie Sexton, Liv Turner and Ellie Williamson all scored that day.

While it’s the first league encounter of the year, the teams did meet back in April in the group stage of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup, and that ended win a 54-12 win for York. Tamzin Renouf got a hat-trick, while there were two each for Savannah Andrade and Ellie WIlliamson as the Valkyrie went on to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

A win for York will guarantee them a place in the top four of the table.
