York Valkyrie v Leigh Leopards: Match Preview

York Valkyrie face Leigh Leopards at York St.John University Sports Fields on Sunday 14th June (2.30pm) in the Betfred Women’s Super League!

It’s round four of this year’s competition, and the Valkyrie are currently fourth, having won one and lost two of their opening matches.

After the first round win over Huddersfield, Leon Pryce’s side had a narrow 18-14 defeat at home to St.Helens, before a disappointing 30-10 loss at Leeds Rhinos in the last round.

Leigh beat Featherstone Rovers 34-8 on the opening weekend, but have since lost to Huddersfield (26-0) and Wigan (68-4). They lie in sixth place in the table, behind York and Huddersfield on points difference.

Last year, Leigh managed three wins in the league, but lost twice to York, 26-0 at Golborne Parkside and then 28-4 at the LNER Community Stadium. York’s tries that day came from Eboni Partington, Georgie Hetherington, Tamzin Renouf, Agnes Wood and Evie Sexton.

A win for the Valkyrie will keep them in the top four of the table regardless of other results, courtesy of a good points difference.

Leigh have a reasonably settled squad, with former Wigan player, Becky Greenfield bringing plenty of experience, alongside captain and Irish international, Storm Cobain.

They’ll face a Valkyrie side keen to show more of what they’re capable of after last week’s defeat at Headingley.

Join us at York St.John University Sports Fields, Haxby Road, York, YO31 8TA as York Valkyrie host Leigh Leopards in round 4 of the Betfred Women's Super League!

The game kicks off at 2.30pm on Sunday 14th June.
